Solo earns another shutout

A tie marked the game involving United States and Iceland. The match, held on the 9th of March was held in Lagos, Portugal. US (2-0-1) crave for a 10th title in 22 Algarve Cups, but the first since 2013.

Japan got beaten by France (3-0) with 3-1 earlier on Monday and will take part of the final, on Wednesday, the 11th of March, as a premiere in 6 Algarve Cups arrivals. Before the Women's World Cup in June, Algarve is the last significant and great tournament.

Solo made a crucial save against Iceland, ranking No.20 in the first half, for her 80th career shutout. After a 30-day suspension brought by the US Soccer in January caused by her husband being arrested, this was the player’s third start. The Americans, ranked No. 2 in the world, couldn't succeed in getting past Iceland goalkeeper Gudbjorg Gunnarsdottir in the game at Municipal Stadium.

During the second half, the U.S. speckled Gunnarsdottir with multiple shots. One of the “attackers” was Lori Chalupney's long drive that went just wide in the 67th minute and Morgan Press' strike from 20 feet out in the 83rd minute. It was the lone loss of the year so far for the U.S., which is 3-1-1 as the team gets ready for the World Cup in Canada.

On the 8th of June, the U.S. female players open Group D play with Australia in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The Algarve Cup featured not less than nine teams that are participating active in the World Cup.
