Two female swimmers hopeful for gold in 2016 Olympics

Even though swimming has been a part of the Olympics since the beginning, it was not always open to women. With improvements in training techniques, the swim times have been decreasing with each passing year. The original Olympic swimming games were held in open water in the seas!

Two gold medal hopefuls in the female category in swimming for this year’s Olympics are:

Jazz Carlin

Jazz, or Jasmine Roxy Carlin from Wales, is 25 years old and is a fantastic swimming competitor representing Britain in all the world championships. She debuted in 2005, in Italy, where she was eliminated but has continued to compete each year. She started winning Silver and Gold in the 2010 Commonwealth Games. In the recent 2014 Commonwealth Games, she won Gold in the 800 meter race and Silver in the 400 meter freestyle category. She is also a qualified trainer.

Missy Franklin

Missy is short for Melissa Jeanette Franklin, and has already won a Gold medal at the Olympics multiple times. She broke the record for 100 meter backstroke and is known for winning Gold in both 200 meter and the 100 meter race. She has won more than 25 Gold medals in many championship games all over the world. She also holds the award for American Swimmer of the Year, 2012. It is also admirable that she is the first woman to win 11 Gold medals at the World Aquatics Championships. Although she is a dual citizen of both Canada and America, she represents America.
