USOC offers Boston as next Olympics site

After the rough-and-tumble Olympics held in Russia in 2012, and the upcoming 2016 Olympics to be held in Brazil, America is eager for its turn hosting the world-wide affair.

On Thursday, the U.S. Olympic leaders have cast a bid with the Olympics committee for the next international sports event to be held in Boston, a small, college city. The bid involves a touching story that will reveal the history of Boston’s protest groups and invite the Games to America. It has been 28 years since the U.S. last hosted the Olympic Games.

John Fish, the chairman of the city’s bid, led the news conference on Friday by saying, “Today's selection by the USOC is the beginning of an incredible opportunity for Boston."

A lot of America’s hopes are set on Boston, especially after two unfortunately failed attempts to get the games. In 2012 and 2016, New York and Chicago were the United States’ Olympic City bids, and the both ended up in fourth-place.

Now, Boston will join Rome as one of the only two cities that have been officially decided on for the 2024 games.

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh was honored that his city was chosen. “"This selection is in recognition of our city's talent, diversity and global leadership," the mayor said.“Our goal is to host an Olympic and Paralympic Games that are innovative, walkable and hospitable to all. Boston hopes to welcome the world's greatest athletes to one of the world's great cities."

Let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best for the 2024 Olympic Games.
