Paul Elbert Hamm is one of the best artistic gymnasts produced by USA. He was born on September 2, 1982 in Washburn, Wisconsin. He is a world champion gymnast and won medals in the sports extravanga, Olympics. In 2004 Olympic Games, he achieved the all-round competition. He faced initial disappointment in 2000 Sydney summer Olympics when he finished fifth in the team event and fourteenth in the individual all- around competition. But he did not give up and raised his training hours and he got his reward for his hard work when he became the American man to win the all-around title at the world championships. Paul participated in 2004 Summer Olympics which was hosted by Athens with his twin, Morgan Hamm. He won silver in team event and gold in the individual all-around competition and this gold was a miraculous one because he had a disastrous fall on the vault, almost into the judges’ bench and put him in the twelfth place which was disheartening as he had no way to get a medal of any color. But he did not lose hope, as some other competitors also had such falls plus his superb performance on parallel bars put him in the fourth position and finally he won the gold only by a very narrow margin of 0.12 second which is till now the closest in the history of Olympics Gymnastics. But his trouble did not end there. There was a controversy in his winning the gold medal but later on the issue was solved and he retained his gold medal.
