U.S. udner-23 team announced

Until a few days ago Andreas Herzog was the assistant of U.S. national soccer team coach Jurgen Klinsmann. Since Friday, last week, he’s the official coach of the national under-23 soccer team and also in charge of putting a team together for the 2016 Olympic Games which are to be held in Rio de Janeiro.

Herzog is now 46 and during his career has played for Bayern Munchen where he was colleagues with Klinsmann. Throughout his career as a player he’s been in 103 games for the Austrian national team (1988 to 2003) during which he scored 26 times. As a coach he had some experiences coaching the Austrian national under-23 team and has been Klinsmann assistant since 2011.

In a press release following the naming Herzog stated that he is honored by this opportunity and that he recognizes how important the Olympic Games are for the country. He continued by saying that he will do whatever possible for his team to qualify to the Rio de Janeiro games.

In the same press release Klinsmann said that he has all confidence in Herzog and believes he can prepare the team to be competitive at an international level. He continued to say that although the U.S. is a hard country to recruit, with players coming from all parts of the country and from different mediums he knows Andi (Herzog) has the necessary knowledge of putting a team together. What will happen will remain to be seen next year, if the team qualifies to the Olympic Games that is.
